About this position
The Tool Crib Attendant is responsible for coordinating receivables, sorting items into inventory and issuing items retained in the warehouse. This includes operation of warehouse equipment and managing warehouse activities, such as staging, issuing materials to the maintenance and production shops. This position is also responsible for ensuring the correct levels of inventory are maintained by tracking inventory through transactions in the company’s ERP system.

Key Accountabilities
- Receive all maintenance and shop goods/parts and materials, record incoming shipments, check shipments against purchase orders, and verify contents of shipment against packing slip for accuracy.
- Quarantine goods/parts and materials that require quality or technical inspection prior to acceptance.
- Manage all returned maintenance and shop goods/parts and materials according to procedures determining and recording damaged or faulty items, initiating all supplier claims in a timely manner as required.
- Sort goods/parts and materials and store in designated bins or staging locations.
- Track material issues and returns, taking care to ensure that all physical inventory items match the inventory transactions in Visual.
- Track, issue and maintain MSDS worksheets with materials that have MSDS attributes.
- Establish min/max levels and tracking inventory activities, ensuring acceptable level of stocked items are available.
- Plan the layout of storage areas considering stock levels, product sizes, product weights and potential hazards.
- Track tool crib assets, maintaining accurate “issue” and “return” tracking transactions.
- Examine tools and equipment before issue and after return.
- Arrange requisitions for internal or external repairs.
- Help to determine the life cycle for all tool and equipment assets following asset disposal policies and procedures.
- Ensure all tool and equipment assets are correctly identified for tracking locations, value, date the asset was put into service, repair history, and disposal date.
- Perform regular physical inventory counts as required by daily cycle counts and yearly wall-to-wall counts.
- Trace historical records to determine the cause of discrepancies between inventory records and the actual stock on-hand.
- Conduct regular spot checks on fast-moving items within physical inventory to ensure consistency with the inventory represented in Visual.
- Provide documentation on inventory adjustments for out-of-balance inventory values (physical on-hand versus quantities represented in Visual).
Education / Experience
The following are required:
- Fork-lift operator’s certificate
- Post-secondary education in APICS or warehouse training is an asset
- Provincial parts certification is an asset
- 3 years warehouse experience as a materials handler / receiver in a distribution setting.
- 2 years of experience in operating various warehouse equipment and tools, including pallet jack, fork-lift, battery stand-up, propane or fuel.
Work Environment
- Primarily warehouse, yard and office, with regular visits to manufacturing and shop facilities
- Fast paced with tight deadlines
- Regular work schedule based on 40 hour work week
- Work schedule may vary
- On-call duties/after-hours support
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn as per company policies.
