About this position
Description
The Junior Engineer supports and performs all aspects of helical screw pile design, analysis, and testing under the direction of the Senior Engineer. The Junior Engineer will complete drafting assignments including the development of helical pile design, manufacturing, and installation drawings.
Key Accountabilities
- Executes design projects to ensure the objectives for project deliverables and schedules are met
- Provide engineering support to the project team, including design, preparing calculation and drawings, performing field work and testing
- Work to understand the project requirements and apply it to the design of helical screw piles
- Conduct engineering site visits to ensure project requirements are met
- Read, understand and interpret geotechnical reports, including soil borehole logs, shear strength, CPT data and soils testing data
- Extract necessary data from reports to properly design a screw pile and meet foundation requirements
- Execute geotechnical data collection programs and apply it to the design of helical piles
- Perform pile load testing and interprets the data
- Perform field install inspections
- Analyze data and prepare reports
- Carry out structural analysis and specific tasks in the design of screw piles and other foundation elements to be reviewed by Intermediate and/or Senior Engineer
- Perform analyses for helical piles using in-house and commercial software, such as LPile, Group and other commercial programs
- Use S-Frame and other related structural design software
- Take accountability for assignments and projects and perform to Almita’s quality standards and address deficiencies immediately
- In a timely manner, fulfill and pursue the requirements necessary to achieve Professional Engineering designation
Education / Experience
The following are required:
- Degree in civil or geotechnical engineering
- Less than 5 years of experience with emphasis in geotechnical or structural engineering
- Proficient in the use of AutoCAD
- Aptitude for visualizing in 3 dimensions
The following are assets
- Working toward completion of Professional Engineering (P.Eng) designation an asset
- Experience in the construction industry
- Experience working remotely
Work Environment
- Primarily office environment with occasional visits to manufacturing facility
- Travel to project sites is required
- Occasional exposure to loud noises
- Occasional exposure to extreme weather
- Fast paced with tight deadlines
- Regular work schedule based on 40 hour work week
- Work schedule may vary
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn as per company and client policies
