About this position
Description
Reporting to the Corporate Controller, the Senior Accountant provides support to the Corporate Controller and is responsible for a variety of accounting and reporting activities to ensure the overall accuracy of the financial statements and regulatory compliance. This position is a contract position for 12 - 14 months.
Key Accountabilities
- Prepare monthly financial statements for review including the appropriate analysis, commentary, and management reports for use by management and shareholders
- Provide support in formulating the corporate budget and forecasts.
- Support all reporting and filing obligations are met with regards to bank, board, and other lenders
- Ensure all reporting and filing obligations are met for provincial taxes, GST/HST.
- Assist with various audits as they arise
- Assist with Project Margin review and Analysis
- Manage prepaid expenses and monthly departmental accruals
- Provide daily tracking and reconciliation of Bank Transactions
- Assist with weekly cashflow forecasting
- Manage all Capex Additions, Depreciation and write offs
- Assist with Debt management, Operating and Capital Leasing schedule and payments
- Prepare payroll, WCB and Expense accruals; dealing with multi-currency an asset
- Assist with annual financial statements audit
- Assist with the SR&ED claims
- Provide support for Insurance renewals
- Take accountability for ad hoc support for finance team
- Understanding the financial system and playing a key role in system upgrade/conversion
Education / Experience
- University or College Degree in Accounting and 4 - 5 years experience
- Working towards Accounting Designation
- Advance Microsoft Office Skills
- Working knowledge of Graphs, Charts and Pivot tables
- Knowledge of Accounting Principles
- Knowledge of Financial and Cost Accounting
- Experience with:
- Budgeting, Forecasting and Financial Reporting
- Bank & Balance Sheet Accounts Reconciliation
- Intercompany Transactions
- Taxes (GST/PST) various provinces
- Payroll & other Cost Allocation
- Fixed Assets/Depreciation
- Sharepoint (asset)
- Visual 9 (asset)
- VENA (asset)
